Educators and Accessible Curriculum – PDF, Word or PowerPoint

I’m sitting at ATIA 2017 (#ATIA17) and am inspired to see so many special educators. The impact that a special educator has on the lives of students with disabilities is tremendous. We were just having a team conversation on what is it to provide inclusion! For us inclusion is providing the same access to students with disabilities which is enjoyed by all other students. Why should it be any different!

In teaching, we are seeing an increase in the use of technology whether it is providing:

  • Learning material
  • Additional reading material
  • Lecture Presentations
  • Assessments

Often the technologies used to deliver these are the common softwares like Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, PDF.

If we want our students with disabilities to have equal access, we need to ensure that these the textbooks and the supplemental learning material are accessible!

Yes, we would love our teachers to ensure that they make their material accessible, but in case you are struggling to deliver, don’t worry, we would be happy to support! Come chat with us at #ATIA17 – Booth 314 on accessible curriculum!
