ADA Compliance for Educational Institutions: Why Accessibility Is Critical?

Title II of the ADA, published on 24th April 2024 by the Department of Justice, provides that no qualified individual with a disability be excluded from participation in or denied the benefits of the services, programs, or activities of a public entity. The new rule requires all web content and mobile apps to meet WCAG 2.1, Level AA and applies to all state and local governments. This also include public schools, community colleges and public universities. Ensuring your website, LMS and learning materials are ADA compliant not only helps you avoid lawsuits and penalties but also helps you create an environment that is open and accessible to everyone, including students with disabilities.

Creating an equitable learning environment for everyone

It's a fact that 60% of disabled students are not able to access university forms, brochures, flyers, infographics, and reports due to lack of accessibility. As universities strive to make their campuses more inclusive and accessible for students with disabilities, one of the most important steps is to ensure that all your documents, regardless of whether it is in HTML, Word, PDF, or any other format, are fully accessible.
